Edge Startup of the Year CxO Interviews: Doug Recker, Founder & President, EdgePresence

In the lead up to the presentation of the Edge Startup of the Year Award at Edge Computing World, we’re taking some time to get to know the leaders of each of the ten Finalists.  Today we are talking with Doug Recker, Founder & President of EdgePresence, about all things edge computing:

Hi Doug ! Tell us a bit about yourself – what led you to get involved in the edge computing market?

I am the Founder & President of EdgePresence. My concentration in this industry has been on delivering multi-tenant access edge data center and colocation services – an area I have been working in for more than 25 years. Prior to founding EdgePresence, I founded Colo5 Data Centers, LLC, which was later acquired by Cologix, Inc. Working in the data center market for  25+ years, I started observing companies moving to the edge for their colocation needs, and seized the opportunity to venture out and build and deploy micro data centers and introduced EdgePresence in 2018.

What is the company uniquely bringing to the edge market?

EdgePresence offers customizable, scalable, and ready-to-deploy all-in-one edge solutions to meet the distributed infrastructure needs of businesses in the cloud-based and 5G future. Our purpose-built micro data centers densify and expand networks to the true edge, providing lower latency, faster data speeds, and flexible, scalable infrastructure options to meet the demands of users. We offer unmatched cost efficiency, low cost of development and operational support that provides a turnkey opportunity for businesses to incorporate the future of edge computing.

Tell us more about the company?

EdgePresence was founded in 2018 with the mission to offer customizable, scalable, and ready-to-deploy all-in-one edge solutions to meet the distributed infrastructure needs of businesses in the cloud-based and 5G future. Our concept pertains to building and deploying micro data centers across the US, either at the bases of cell towers (as power and connectivity are already there) or with other specifically focused real estate partners; essentially wherever edge compute is needed. We provide open edge solutions that are tower- and carrier-neutral, servicing a variety of customers ranging from carriers to enterprise customers (last mile providers to local businesses).

Since inception, we’ve had an aggressive deployment schedule, and have successfully launched in several US markets that include Jacksonville and Gainesville, FL; Austin, TX; Pittsburgh, PA, Boulder and Denver, CO; Atlanta and Statesboro, GA – and many more locations are in the pipeline for 2020 and beyond.

How do you see the edge market developing over the next few years?

Edge computing, including edge data centers, continue to move towards the forefront of conversations regarding future solutions and meeting the distributed infrastructure needs of businesses in the cloud-based and 5G future. It vastly improves the services of any devices connecting to the internet by reducing the distance between data origin points.

EdgePresence ensures a better experience for customers in that traditional data centers are typically 124 miles or more from the end user or end device. Our goal is to be within 12 miles of the end user or end device.  We bring the internet closer to communities that need it the most. In addition, edge data centers are cost-effective, secure and work more quickly to ensure timely processing of massive amounts of data generated and for applications and to deliver real-time response.

We continue to learn a lot more about edge computing and its contribution to enabling 5G technologies as we go through this process, and look forward to being a big part of supporting evolving technologies in this way, and improving the customer experience.

Thanks Doug, and best of luck with the Award !
